9-Day In-Depth Cultural Experience & Wildlife Safari
Join us for this exclusive insider visit to AfricAid’s Tanzania, where people like you are helping deserving young girls transform their lives and their communities. Learn about a new culture and test your ability to connect with people who are different than you. Then, experience Tanzania’s extraordinary wildlife and scenic beauty. AfricAid is a nonprofit organization that supports girls’ education in Africa in order to provide young women with the opportunity to transform their own lives and the futures of their communities. 

DAY 1 – ARUSHA: Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be met and transferred to your hotel. Dinner and overnight Arumeru River Lodge or similar. (D)

Arumeru River Lodge is Tanzania's new luxury lodge set in lush tropical gardens with breath-taking views of Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru. There are 20 spacious and comfortable rooms with en-suite bathrooms and verandas in 10 chalets, all on the ground floor. It offers an attractive main building with resort facilities, lounge and bar areas, and reception with telephone/Fax, internet, a boutique, restaurant and cloak rooms.

DAY 2 – ARUSHA: After breakfast, drive to Upendo Primary School in Usa River, an AfricAid beneficiary school. Here, you will meet the headmaster at Upendo. Tour the school and participate in a school activity followed by lunch. Afterward, walk to a home of one of the students, where you will meet the family and learn about real-life in Tanzania. Later, enjoy dinner with the AfricAid staff at the hotel. Overnight Arumeru River Lodge or similar. (B, L, D)

DAY 3 – ARUSHA: After breakfast, depart for Losononi. Here, you will visit the Maasai school supported by AfricAid, interact with the students, visit the boma of a student and get a feel for the day to day life in this rural village. Return to the hotel and enjoy dinner with the AfricAid staff. Overnight Arumeru River Lodge or similar. (B, L, D)

DAY 4 – ARUSHA: After breakfast, visit the AfricAid office, followed by lunch at Shanga River House. In the afternoon, visit a special education school or a health care facility and the local market. Afterwards, observe a KISA lesson at an AfricAid supported Secondary School then enjoy dinner at the hotel. Overnight Arumeru River Lodge or similar. (B, L, D)

DAYS 5 & 6 – TARANGIRE: After breakfast, depart for Tarangire National Park with a stop at the rural town of Monduli to visit AfricAid scholars here. Tarangire National Park is famous for its diverse bird population, large herds of elephant and majestic baobab trees. You can find many of the large African mammals here, including lion, leopard, and buffalo. The park is named after the Tarangire River that runs through it. Enjoy a game drive through the park with a picnic lunch. Arrive at your lodge for dinner. On day 6, enjoy a full day of game drives. Overnights Tarangire Safari Lodge or similar. (B, L, D)

Built on top of a high bluff with a breath-taking panorama, Tarangire Safari Lodge is superbly located in Tarangire National Park, providing one of the best views in Africa. The 35 luxury twin tents combine the authentic safari atmosphere of ‘nights under canvas’, with the modern comforts of electric light and en-suite bathrooms with hot water.

DAY 7 – LAKE MANYARA/KARATU: After breakfast, depart for Lake Manyara National Park with a packed lunch. Lake Manyara National Park is one of Tanzania’s smallest and most diverse reserves.  It hosts tree-climbing lions, hippos, elephants and a huge array of bird life including tens of thousands of flamingos that make their annual pilgrimage to the alkaline shores of Lake Manyara. Enjoy a game drive in the park. Continue to your lodge in the Ngorongoro Highlands. Arrive in time for dinner and overnight. Overnight Rhotia Valley Tented Lodge or similar. (B, L, D)
Rhotia Valley Tented Lodge offers breath-taking views of the adjacent Ngorongoro Conservation Area forest, with in the background Lake Manyara. The lodge is built with indigenous hardwood and in traditional African style. With only fifteen individual tents, Rhotia Valley has an intimate charm. Each of the comfortable tented houses has its own veranda and a bathroom with hot and cold running water, shower and flush toilet.

DAY 8 – NGORONGORO CRATER: After breakfast, drive to the Ngorongoro Crater and descend the 2,000 foot walls for game viewing on the crater floor with a packed lunch. Once a large volcano that later collapsed, the Ngorongoro Crater is now the largest intact caldera in the world. This 100-square-mile caldera is home to more than 25,000 large mammals like lions, leopards, elephants, zebras, wildebeest and the rare black rhino. (Please note that officially, only 6 hours is allowed in the Crater, although this regulation has yet to be enforced.) Return to your lodge in time for dinner. Overnight Rhotia Valley Tented Lodge or similar. (B, L, D)

DAY 9 – ARUSHA/DEPART: After breakfast, depart for Arusha with a packed lunch. Enjoy a stop at a local market. Continue to KIA Lodge for your dayroom, where you can relax and freshen up. Approximately three hours prior to your flight, you will take the complimentary shuttle to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your onward flights. END OF SERVICES. (B, L)
