Join us for this exclusive insiders visit to AfricAid’s Tanzania. Extraordinary game viewing, authentic cultural visits and a chance to truly contribute are the hallmarks of this deluxe tour. Highlights include school visits to meet participants in our scholarship and leadership program, village visits to AfricAid supported schools, and an eight-day photo safari to spectacular game parks such as Tarangire, Ngorongoro Crater and Serengeti. Best of all, your participation makes possible a two-year scholarship and mentoring for one student!
Day 1 – ARUSHA: Upon arrival and after clearing customs and immigration at Kilimanjaro International Airport, Tanzania, you will be met and transferred to your Arusha Hotel. Overnight Rivertrees Country Inn. (D)
Rivertrees is nestled between Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru in natural gardens along the Usa River. With old world ambiance, African country elegance, excellent farm cuisine, personal service and genuine warmth from your hosts, Rivertrees is a magical place.
Day 2 – ARUSHA: After breakfast, we’ll visit an Arusha Secondary (High) School to see how students learn and what their challenges are. You’ll also meet students who are recipients of AfricAid Kisa scholarships, including those benefitting from your safari and personal sponsorship. In the afternoon, we’ll return to Rivertrees. Dinner and overnight here. (B, L, D)
Day 3 – ARUSHA/LOSINONI: Enjoy breakfast, then travel to a nearby school for more learning and activities with students. After lunch, we’ll drive to the rural village community of Losinoni. Enjoy drinks around the campfire and dinner. Overnight in our private mobile camp with comfortable tents and en-suite bucket showers and toilets. (B, L, D)
Our Classic Camp includes small but comfortable walk-in tents with en-suite toilet and shower. Camps include friendly staff to do all set-ups, prepare and serve delicious meals. Also includes a dining tent for meals and campfires where possible. All of the campsites are private bush campsites.
Day 4 – LOSINONI: Have breakfast, then spend the day learning about the challenges and joys of rural life in Tanzania. A special visit will be made to an AfricAid supported student and her family. A walk in the surrounding hills is possible. Meals and overnight at our private mobile camp. (B, L, D)
Days 5-6 – TARANGIRE: After breakfast, you will depart for Tarangire National Park for game viewing. Tarangire is famous for its grand Baobab trees and large herds of elephants, plus great sightings of animals such as buffalo, zebras, lions and much more. Overnight Tarangire Safari Lodge. (B, L, D)
Built on top of a high bluff with a breathtaking panorama, Tarangire Safari Lodge is superbly located in Tarangire National Park, providing one of the best views in Africa. Carving out the landscape below the lodge is the Tarangire River, a favorite watering place, which attracts impressive numbers and variety of game. Our luxury twin tents combine the authentic safari atmosphere of ‘nights under canvas’, with more modern comforts.
Day 7 – TARANGIRE/NGORONGORO HIGHLANDS: After breakfast, enjoy a last game drive in Tarangire, then drive through Maasailand and make your way into the lush, beautiful Ngorongoro Highlands and to your lodge perched on the crater rim. Overnight Ngorongoro Serena Lodge. (B, L, D)
This unique lodge clings to the rim of the magnificent Ngorongoro Crater, the largest and most perfect volcanic crater on Earth. Long and low, the lodge is built from local river stone and camouflaged with indigenous vines. Designed to blend completely into the landscape, it is entirely invisible from the floor of the Crater 600 metres below. The lodge takes its inspiration from the prehistoric site of Olduvai Gorge, which lies close by. Linked by arched stone passages and timbered decks, its walls are decorated with stylized prehistoric cave paintings and lit by flaring torches. At the stone heart of the lodge burns a glowing fire, which is kept constantly alight. Decorated with cave paintings, the rooms are strung around the Crater rim. Each has its own rock- enclosed balcony, and all enjoy completely uninterrupted views of the volcanic amphitheatre below.
Day 8 - NGORONGORO CRATER: Early this morning you will depart for the floor of Ngorongoro Crater for a game drive with picnic lunch (maximum 6 hrs park service allotted). The Crater is the world's largest unbroken, un-flooded volcanic caldera and a haven for wildlife. This 100-square-mile caldera is home to more than 20,000 large mammals like lions, leopards, elephants, zebras, wildebeest and the rare black rhino. Return to the Ngorongoro Serena Lodge for dinner and overnight. (B, L, D)
Day 9 – SERENGETI: After breakfast, spend the morning driving to the Serengeti, game viewing en route. Visit the cradle of mankind, Olduvai Gorge, along the way. This giant ecosystem is home to millions of animals including lions, cheetah, leopards, buffalo, elephants, zebras, impalas, hyenas, wildebeest, hippos, crocodiles and more. Your lodge is perfectly located for the opportunity to see the wildebeest migration in June. Dinner and overnight at Dunia Camp. (B, L, D, Dr)
The unique Dunia Camp has 7 spacious en-suite tents with flush toilets, large bathrooms and a private veranda overlooking the Kopjes. A close knit staff provides guests with a warm welcome and prepares delicious bush meals under the stars of the Serengeti sky. Seronera – and its airstrip are 45 minutes drive away, making a balloon safari possible from Dunia Camp. Dunia Camp offers guests a homely and tranquil base from which to visit the well-known areas of the central and southern Serengeti. The camp also allows access to a highly exclusive experience: the spectacular Moru Kopjes area, just south of the camp.
Day 10-11 – SERENGETI: Enjoy two more full days of game activities in the spectacular Serengeti. Overnights Dunia Camp. (B, L, D, Dr)
Day 12 – NGORONGORO HIGHLANDS: After a final breakfast in Serengeti, you will depart for the Ngorongoro Highlands, and enjoy a picnic en route. Enjoy an afternoon at leisure at beautiful Gibb’s Farm. Enjoy the myriad activities offered here such as tours of the organic farm (where produce for all meals served at Gibb’s comes from), forest and birding walks, village visits or a treatment at the African Spa, an on-site Maasai healing center that helps support and retain traditional medicine practices and merges them with contemporary spa services such as massage and hydrotherapy (extra charge). Overnight Gibb’s Farm. (B, L, D)
Set among English gardens, the Farmhouse and 20 luxury cottages are the heart of a working farm. Built in 1929, the Farmhouse has retained the charm of the era. Cozy living rooms are steps away from the dining room, bar and gift shop. Just outside, a sprawling verandah and garden offer sweeping views of the valley below. Organic coffee is grown and roasted on the Farm, and a 10-acre organic garden provides 90% of the ingredients for the fresh meals. The luxury cottages feature fireplaces, wooden floors and classic interiors. En-suite garden bathrooms offer twin basins, soaking tubs and indoor/ outdoor showers. Chef Kuntal runs the kitchen at Gibb's, having recently arrived from South Asia's first destination spa: Ananda in the Himalayas. Kuntal trained under Michelin star chefs in the UK.
Day 13 – ARUSHA: Depart for Arusha after breakfast, enjoying a picnic lunch along the way. Upon arrival in Arusha, enjoy shopping before transferring to the KIA Lodge where you will have use of a day room until your departure. (B, L)
