Botswana is a land-locked country
dominated by the famous Kalahari Desert. With few people and little water, it's
a great place to get away from it all. Most travelers visit the liquid paradise
of the Okavango Delta, the largest inland delta in the world. Chobe National
Park is a great place to see wildlife in riverine or savannah environments, and
the Kalahari is home to bushman and adventure seekers attracted to its extreme
environment.
Okavango
Delta/Moremi Game Reserve
The Okavango Delta is an incredible maze of waterways,
channels, lagoons and islands. A huge number of mammals and birds inhabit the
Delta making it a nature lover's paradise. No trip to the Delta is complete
without a mokoro trip where you glide on the water through the reeds in a
dugout canoe.
Chobe
National Park
A gem in this gem-producing country, Chobe hosts a wide
variety of habitats and wildlife. In the northeastern section, the Chobe River
provides nourishment to mammals, birds and visitors. Other parts can be dry and
desolate, but are very interesting at certain times of year.
Makgadikgadi
& Nxai Pan National Park
Inhospitable when dry and hot, these salt pans are a sight to
see. When the rains come, wildlife moves in and near these areas to relish in
the greenness and water.
The
Kalahari
This sandy scrub semi-desert represents Africa (and Earth) at
its most fascinating. The Kalahari boasts few roads, facilities or
infrastructure of any type, which is perfect if you're really willing to get
away from it all.
Tuli
Block/Mashatu
This incredible game viewing area is just north of the
Limpopo River across from South Africa. Known as the "land of giants," it
offers fantastic game viewing, many special activities such as horseback and
mountain bike safaris, and reasonable pricing.
